Dr. Kaketani graduated from the University of Miyazaki School of Medicine in 1982. After obtaining a doctorate in gastrointestinal cancer research, he studied under Professor Hiromi Shinya at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in the United States. He has performed over 200,000 gastroscopies, colonoscopies, and polypectomies without incident. He serves as a councilor of the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery and a guest advisor of the Midtown Clinic in New York.
Professor Shinya graduated from Juntendo University School of Medicine in 1960 and left Japan for the United States in 1963. He developed the endoscopic insertion technique called the Shinya Method in 1968 and successfully performed the first endoscopic polypectomy without an abdominal incision. Since then, he has performed over 350,000 endoscopies in Japan and the United States as the world’s leading authority on colonoscopy medicine.
